This is unglazed white tile hand-decorated with crackle glaze. Brushes are used to apply copious amounts of glaze. The amount of glaze applied determines the intensity of the color, and with the changes in portions where different glazes intermix, the degree of line thickness and curvature, the shading of portions enclosed by squares, no two are alike. Enjoy the whimsicality of hand-painted embellishment with this tile. (Crackle: This refers to cracks in the glaze produced by the disparate contraction of the clay and the glaze during cooling after the ceramic is fired. Crackling can advance over the years in some cases, but this will not result in the glaze flaking off. In cases of use in locations with constant exposure to water, permeation of soiling into the crackling is commonly seen. In the U.S.A and Europe, where much use is made of tile, this is appreciated as the charm of change over time.)
